Atlanta Hawks defeat Dallas Mavericks 135-120; Kuminga hits sixth-longest field goal in play-by-play era

Atlanta Hawks forward Jonathan Kuminga made a 75-foot 3-pointer with five seconds left in the third quarter during his team's 135-120 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on March 18, 2026, at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.[1][2]

Kuminga, a 23-year-old forward born in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo, grabbed a rebound under the Hawks' basket, took one dribble and flung a cross-court pass toward center Jock Landale near the opposite rim. The pass went directly through the net.[1][3]

The basket marked the longest made field goal by a Hawks player in the NBA play-by-play era (since 1996-97) and the sixth-longest overall in that period, according to Elias Sports Bureau. It surpassed the previous Hawks mark of 63 feet by guard Jason Terry against the Los Angeles Clippers on January 5, 2000.[1][4]

Kuminga finished with 16 points, five rebounds and three assists. Teammate Dyson Daniels scored 19 points on 9-of-13 shooting, while Jalen Johnson had 17 points and 11 rebounds.[1]

The win reportedly gave the Hawks their 11th consecutive victory, positioning them as the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference. Atlanta's longest winning streak is 19 games, set during the 2014-15 season.[1][5]

The Mavericks, playing at their home arena with a capacity of 18,032 for basketball, dropped to 23-47, losing 11 of their previous 13 games.[1][2]
