Legendary WWE tag team duo departs company in latest wave of cuts

New Day's Kingston, Woods leave WWE roster

Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, known as the New Day tag team, have departed WWE as part of recent releases. Reports from Fightful Select and BodySlam indicate the duo was moved to the alumni section of the WWE website on Saturday. Tonga Loa and JC Mateo also exited the company.

Kingston and Woods formed the New Day with Big E, becoming fan favorites. After Big E suffered a serious injury, the pair continued as a tag team. Kingston achieved singles success, winning the WWE Championship from Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 35 amid widespread fan support, along with four Intercontinental titles and three United States titles. Woods joined WWE in 2010 following time in TNA and NJPW, and won the King of the Ring in 2021.

The duo captured four tag team titles together and eight overall including their time with Big E. They won their most recent belts at WrestleMania 41 before turning heel, then lost the titles in June. Woods sustained an injury that year, while Kingston allied with Grayson Waller.

Tonga Loa appeared in WWE from 2009 to 2014 and returned in 2024 to join Solo Sikoa and the MFT faction. JC Mateo entered WWE in 2025, supported Sikoa, and held tag team titles with Tama Tonga until losing them to Damian Priest and R-Truth in March.
