Athletics Ballpark Construction Advances Toward 2028 Target
The lower bowl of the Athletics' $2 billion domed stadium on the Las Vegas Strip is taking shape, with club and contractor officials confirming the project remains on schedule to open before the 2028 season.
Project director Tyler Van Eeckhaut of Mortenson-McCarthy told the Las Vegas Stadium Authority on Thursday that the lower-suite level is progressing substantially, with rooms taking shape and the environment becoming more visible. Buttress work has been completed and the upper deck began rising in April. A parking garage on the southeast side will open in phases, starting with 1,500 spaces and reaching 2,500 at completion.
The Athletics are playing their second of three planned seasons at a Triple-A stadium in West Sacramento while construction continues. The team played its previous 57 seasons in Oakland. Ceremonial groundbreaking occurred on June 23, and the club's Ballpark Experience Center in Las Vegas opened in December.
A's President Marc Badain reported that the first suites offered for sale have sold out and 80 percent of season-ticket packages for the Athletic Club seats behind home plate have been sold. Tickets for the general public are expected to go on sale in the coming months. The team will play six regular-season games at Las Vegas Ballpark next month, with the June 8-10 series against Milwaukee and the June 12-14 series against Colorado nearly sold out.
