Cornhuskers, Fighting Irish To Meet In 2032-33 Series
Nebraska and Notre Dame will meet in a home-and-home football series in 2032 and 2033, the two schools announced Wednesday. Notre Dame will travel to Lincoln on Oct. 30, 2032, before Nebraska visits South Bend on Oct. 29, 2033.
Nebraska athletic director Troy Dannen said in a statement that the matchup is one fans "circle on their calendars years in advance," citing the appeal of both programs' history and venues. The 2032 meeting will be the teams' first since Nebraska beat Notre Dame 27-10 in Lincoln on Sept. 8, 2001, and only their third matchup since 1948. Nebraska holds an 8-7-1 edge in the all-time series.
The announcement comes as both programs sit unbeaten through two games of the 2026 season. Nebraska has won its openers over Ohio and Bowling Green, while No. 3-ranked Notre Dame has defeated Wisconsin at Lambeau Field and Rice at home. Nebraska opens Big Ten play at Michigan State on Sept. 26 and still faces four ranked opponents - Indiana, Oregon, Ohio State and Iowa - while Notre Dame's remaining schedule includes ranked matchups against BYU, Miami and SMU. Both head coaches, Nebraska's Matt Rhule and Notre Dame's Marcus Freeman, signed contract extensions within the past year; Rhule is 21-19 since 2023, and Freeman is 45-12 since 2021, a tenure that includes a berth in the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship.
